ANNUAL ACTIVTIES REPORT 2021



2021 was a momentous year for ICA-AP. It elected its new Regional Board at the 15th Regional Assembly in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.

In line with ICA 33rd World Cooperative Congress, the Regional Office focused on deepening the cooperative identity in Asia and Pacific. The key activities of the year include consultations with its members on cooperative Identity, launching COOP Dialogue, a bi-annual publication, the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Women’s Forum, the third Asia-Pacific Cooperative Youth Summit (virtual), Coop Pitch competition, Global Workshop on Building and Strengthening Cooperative Identity among Youth, and several webinars to educate members on the opportunities post-Covid-19.

It celebrated the International Day of Cooperatives with #RebuildBetterTogether as its theme to showcase how cooperatives in the Asia-Pacific region are rebuilding together post COVID-19 pandemic. The training programs under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Government of Japan continued to be carried out online. The ICA-EU Partnership on Cooperatives in Development People-Centered Businesses in Action Project successfully ended in August. We were joined by 6 new members from India, Jordan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

ICA-AP is thankful to its members, partners and cooperative leaders in the region for their contribution and support.

MESSAGE FROM THE ICA-AP PRESIDENT AND REGIONAL DIRECTOR


Dear members,
In November, the 15th ICA-AP Regional Assembly at its hybrid meeting in Seoul elected a new Board and a new set of office- bearers. The board has representation from across all the subregions and is well equipped to lead the region for the next four years. Dr. Chandrapal Singh Yadav (India) was elected as President and Mr. Cai Zenhong (China) and Datuk Seri Dr. Abdul Fattah Hj. Abdullah (Malaysia) as Vice Presidents. The other members of the board are Ms. Chitose Arai (Japan), Ms. Natalie Browning (Australia), Mr. Mohamadali Zeygami (Iran), Mr. Sung-hee Lee (Korea), Mr. Min Raj Kadel (Nepal), Mr. Antonio Arañas (the Philippines), Mr. Sarath Weerasiri (Sri Lanka), and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Bao (Vietnam). Mr. Alireza Banaeifar, who was elected as Chair of the Youth Committee, will be the Youth representative on the board. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the leadership provided by Mr. Li Chunsheng and the previous board for their dedicated work in advancing the growth and development of cooperatives in the Asia- Pacific region.

The International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) 2021 (#CoopsDay) was celebrated on 3 July 2021 with the theme “Rebuild better together.” IDC is a day to celebrate the achievements of cooperatives and to show how a human- centred business model, sustained by values of self-help and solidarity and ethical values of social responsibility and concern for community, can reduce inequality, create shared prosperity, and respond to the immediate impacts of COVID-19.
