The National Federation of Forest Owner’s Cooperative Association plays the important role of endeavoring both to raise the economic and social positions of forest owners and to improve people’s life by controlling the use of forest to ensure the continuous production of timber, preservation of the national land and the environment, and conservation of water resources. The following activities are conducted comprehensively: guidance of members’ forest management; receipt of commissions for forestry operations; joint purchases of forestry materials; production sales; and subleasing. The membership of the national federation is composed of the 47 prefectural federations. On the international front, the National Federation joined the ICA in 1970. As a member of the Japan Joint Committee of Cooperatives (JJC), the National Federation performs activities in cooperation with organizations such as agricultural, fisheries, and consumers’ cooperatives.
