On July 2, cooperatives all around the world will celebrate the 100th International Day of Cooperatives (#CoopsDay). A decade on from the UN International Year of Cooperatives, which showcased the unique contribution of cooperatives to making the world a better place, this year’s #CoopsDay slogan --“Cooperatives Build a Better World”-- echoes the theme of the International Year.

International Cooperative Alliance Asia and Pacific (ICA-AP) Committee on Cooperative Research (CCR) has launched COOP Colloquium with the aim to start an academic dialogue on issues that are relevant to cooperative education and research. The experience of cooperative scholarship across the Asia and Pacific region is rich and diverse and ICA-AP CCR would like to bring these together in COOP Colloquium to share, inform and learn. Each iteration focuses on a theme, present different perspectives and have a colloquium. Digital and social media platforms are used to promote COOP Colloquium and have a conversation around cooperative education and research. The third iteration of COOP Colloquium will focus on the theme ‘Rebuilding a resilient global society through cooperative identity’. It will be held in collaboration with the IKOPIN University, Bandung (Indonesia).

The cooperative values and principles call for an open, voluntary, and democratic process of decision-making. In an increasingly regulated, complex, and inter-dependent global economy, where market pressures are high, a current reference on the basic tenets of cooperative identity is required. Thus, the colloquium comes as an opportunity for the cooperative movement to reflect on its role in crisis and in rebuilding a resilient global society. As cooperatives innovate in their sectors of activity and in their typologies, the colloquium will gather leading thought from around the region and across sectors to reflect on our strategies and practices in order to continue building a better world.

Co-op colloquium 3.0 is a starting point to these discussions, bringing together cooperative advocates, practitioners and young scholars from the Asia and Pacific region.

We invite participants to join us for the third iteration of COOP Colloquium and engage in open discussion. Participants are invited to register at link. An invitation with meeting credentials will follow.
