SUMMARY:Coop Colloquium 18: Understanding Discussion Draft 3 of the Stateme
 nt on the Cooperative Identity
DESCRIPTION:Register Here\n28th July 2026  |  Tuesday\n11:00 AM to 12:30
PM Delhi Time (GMT +5:30)  |  Zoom Online Meeting\nBackground\nFollowing
the November 2024 decision of the Members of the International Cooperative
Alliance (ICA) to convene a World Cooperative Congress\, the global consult
ation on cooperative identity has moved from reflection to action. The seco
nd and final phase of this consultation is now focused on the Statement on
the Cooperative Identity itself\, with the Cooperative Identity Advisory Gr
oup (CIAG) releasing a series of discussion drafts setting out possible cha
nges to the Statement.\nDiscussion Draft 1 was shared ahead of the 2024 Gen
eral Assembly and sparked wide ranging conversations across the movement. D
iscussion Draft 2\, which addressed key issues raised during discussions in
New Delhi\, was released for comment in June 2025\, with the comment perio
d closing in November 2025. Discussion Draft 3 (DD3)\, released on 9th June
2026 along with an accompanying commentary and a set of questions for revi
ewers to consider\, is now open for comment until 31st July 2026.\nAs a Reg
ion with a large and diverse membership base\, Asia-Pacific has an importan
t stake in this consultation. The ICA-AP Committee on Cooperative Research
(ICA-AP CCR) is therefore organising this Coop Colloquium to disseminate in
formation on DD3 to members\, researchers and practitioners across the regi
on\, and to gather structured feedback that can be channelled back into the
global consultation process before the comment window closes.\nPurpose\nTo
disseminate information on Discussion Draft 3 of the Statement on the Coop
erative Identity and to collect feedback from ICA-AP members and stakeholde
 rs.\nAbout Discussion Draft 3\nDD3 sets out a Preamble\, Definition\, Value
s and seven Cooperative Principles that together express the shared identit
y of cooperatives worldwide. The Preamble affirms the ICA's role as custodi
an of the cooperative tradition and provides for the Statement to be renewe
d through the Alliance's democratic and deliberative processes\, while pres
erving the integrity of the identity passed on from one generation to the n
ext. Reviewers are invited to consider the Definition\, Values and each of
the seven Principles\, namely Voluntary and Open Membership\, Democratic Me
mber Control\, Member Economic Participation\, Autonomy and Independence\,
Education\, Training and Public Promotion\, Cooperation among Cooperatives\
, and Commitment to Sustainable Communities\, and to share their views on t
he proposed changes with the ICA at consultations@ica.coop or through the o
nline Discussion Forum\, which supports automatic translation into 38 langu
ages.\n \nFormat and Moderation\nThe session will be moderated by Dr. Sids
