The National Cooperative Federation of Nepal Limited [NCFN], established on June 20, 1993 under the Cooperative Act 1992, is an apex body of the cooperative movement of all types and levels of cooperatives organized on the basis of universally accepted cooperative values and principles. Approximately 2 million individual members are involved in the different types of cooperatives for their economic, social and cultural development activities. Following are the Union’s functions:
(a) Promotion and Development;
(b) Training, Education and Publication;
(c) Business Promotion and Operation;
(d) Planning & Management Consultancy;
(e) Inter-Cooperative Relation; and
(f) Leadership and Representation.
Share is one of the main sources of NCF/N capital formation and also a precondition for obtaining the membership of the cooperatives. NCF/N authorized share capital is NRS 500 million. The value of each unit of share is NRS. 5000. NCF/N has the General Assembly constituted by the representatives from member cooperatives. The General Assembly elects Board of Directors for the tenure of 5 years.
