Ms. Joni Simpson

Director, International Labour Organization (ILO)

Ms. Joni Simpson is the Director of the ILO Country Office for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, appointed in January 2024. With over 25 years of experience in advancing gender equality and inclusion in the world of work, she has held leadership roles across Asia and at ILO headquarters in Geneva. Previously, she served as Senior Specialist on gender equality and non-discrimination for East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific, and as Interim Director of the ILO Office in Nepal. A Canadian national, Ms. Simpson holds a Master’s in Cultural Anthropology and a Bachelor of Education.
