The 1st ICA Asia Pacific University / Campus Cooperative Committee meeting was held in Bangkok on 13 July 2009. Following members attended the meeting:

The meeting started with the welcome remarks from Mr Peerasak followed by introductory remarks by all the participating members. Prof Shoji while expressing his happiness over the full fledged status of the Univ Coop Committee of ICA AP reminded the core objectives of the committee and desired to see the Univ / Campus Coops in the Asia Pacific region transforming great theoretical aspects of cooperatives into reality.

Representatives from various countries expressed their concept of developing univ / campus coops in their respective countries.

Delegate from Vietnam desired to see greater participation of youths and students through the network of this committee, Malaysian delegate Prof. Ali laid emphasis on exchange programs among various members of the univ / campus coops in different countries for better assimilation of management practices and service options, Indian delegate Dr Dongre termed univ / campus coops as the laboratory to prepare next generation coops, Indonesian delegate wished to see experienced and committed cooperative leaders in the movement through univ / campus coops so on so forth.

The membership proposal of Korea was seconded by Prof Ali from Malaysia and accepted by the Chairman.

The members approved the Manifesto& Constitution of the Committee and also endorsed the Office Bearers of the Committee.

The members desired to have a session on the univ / campus at the Global Youth Conference (GYC) in Geneva and aspired to constitute Global Campus Coop Committee of ICA. Prof Ali suggested for a slot at the GYC.

Prof Dongre and Mr Kuriki gave an account of the activities. The activities in South East Asia and Far east Asia were coordinated by Mr Kuriki while that in the West and South Asia were coordinated by Prof Dongre.

Mr Kuriki shared his interaction with Fiji, Korea and Brunei and lauded his success in bringing Korea as member. Prof Dongre referred to his communication with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and shared his impressions about his visit to Iran last year.

Chair of the Committee informed about signing a Memorandum of Student Services to the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education and referred to last para of the memorandum that explicitly set out a stage for the ICA AP Committee.

The plan for 09-10 was read out and Mr Kuriki proposed to have the Regional Conference next year by July 2010 in Indonesia preferably around the Indonesian Coop Day. He was particularly concerned about the sustainability of the activities of the committee in the wake of many private universities emerging in various countries. He suggested working out local resources for the conference.

Considering the accessibility and resource availability the committee chose Indonesia and India as two feasible options for the conference.
