The Business Council of Cooperatives and Mutuals (BCCM) in Australia is launching a world-first accredited sustainability training program for cooperative and mutual enterprises (CMEs). It is  developed by Mr. Peter Watts, a sustainability strategist and educator. Starting in February 2023, the program will help CME leaders to understand key sustainability issues and equip them to lead their organisation in developing a strategy (or improving an existing one). The training will

  • Help provide opportunities from the low-carbon transition for CMEs
  • Make CMEs ‘E ready’ in their ESG framework and help put a strategy in place or improve the existing one.
  • Make CMEs better equipped to discuss environmental/sustainability issues with their internal and external stakeholders
  • Make CMEs understand different accreditations, ESG frameworks and reporting standards

The training program consists of a series of recorded lectures and self-directed learning together with live tutor-led workshops across three modules (7-8 hours per module). Participants will have to develop an actionable plan to protect their members and build value and resilience for the future. The course will finish with a one-on-one session with Peter to review and refine their approach.

It is open to organisations without a current sustainability/ESG approach, organisations with an ESG strategy and needing support with its implementation, and organisations with a sustainability strategy already in place but needing improvement and updating.

Full details about the training program can be accessed here.
