14th ICA-AP Regional Workshop held in Singapore

14th ICA Asia-Pacific Regional Workshop on“Management of Consumer Co-operatives” was held by ICA-AP Consumer Committee, in Singapore, 23rd- 26thJune 2014.  NTUC Fair price (Singapore) hosted this workshop, which was attended by 15 cooperators from Vietnam, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

The objectives of the workshop were to promote understanding of socio-economic role of consumer cooperatives, to study the successful cases of international business collaboration between consumer cooperatives and to establish an international network of consumer cooperative leaders and managers.

 

The workshop program started with welcome address by Mr. Haruyoshi Amano, Chairman of ICA-AP Consumer Committee.  On first day, participants were given the lecture of “Overview of National Trades Union Congress” from Ms.  Jean Chew, Principal Consultant Corporate Communications, National Trades Union Congress, and 2 kinds of group work under the theme of “What do you want to learn from the workshop” and “ What are the strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities of your coop?”.    

 

On the second day, participants were given four lectures namely; “Overview NTUC FairPrice” from Mr. Seah Kian Peng, CEO, NTUC FairPrice, “Retail Operation @NTUC FairPrice” from Mr. Gerry Lee, Deputy CEO, NTUC FairPrice, “Purchasing, Merchandising & International Trading @ NTUC Fair price” from Mr.Tng Ah Yiam, Deputy CEO, NTUC FairPrice and “Supply Chain Management” from Mr. Mark Teo, Deputy Director, Fresh Food Logistics, NTUC FairPrice.

 

On the third day, Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, Deputy CEO of Saigon Co-op(Vietnam), gave a lecture about “Overview of Saigon Co-op and retail market in Vietnam”.  Ms. Ho Ha Minh, Head of Marketing, Saigon Co-op FairPrice Limited Liability Company (Vietnam) also gave lecture about the “Foreign joint business venture-Case study of joint business venture between Saigon Co-op and NTUC Fair Price”.

 

On the fourth day, participants presented their presentation under the theme of “What they learnt from the workshop”.After the presentation session, Mr. Haruyoshi Amano, and Ms. Juliana Tan, Training & Development Manager, NTUC Fair price gave debrief on Presentation.     

After the workshop, one participant said; “I have gotten much knowledge through this workshop.  First, I would like to apply on my coop from the small thing”.
