Training Course on Strengthening Management and Development of Agricultural Cooperatives and Farmers’ Organizations in Asia and Africa

 

The 2nd ICA-MAFF Training Course on “Strengthening Management and Development of Agricultural Cooperatives and Farmers’ Organizations in Asia and Pacific-2021” was launched online on 02 February. 

 

The course aims to assist in fostering leaders of farmers’ organizations including agricultural cooperatives, who are expected to play central roles in promoting the formation of agricultural cooperatives and strengthening the organizational and business management, thus contributing to the enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products and income leading to the sustainable development of agricultural production.

 

It will be conducted in two parts – Part-I in collaboration with the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) from February 02 to 21, 2022 and Part-II in collaboration with the Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia (IDACA) from March 01 to 25, 2022.

 

Part 1 of the course was inaugurated on 02 February by Mr. Balasubramanian Iyer, Regional Director, ICA-AP. He was joined by Mr. Ikko Watanabe, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in India, Mr. Hirofumi Kobayashi, Executive Director, IDACA, Prof. S.N. Biswas, Program Coordinator, IRMA, Dr. Umakant Dash, Director, IRMA, Prof. Satyendra Pandey, Actg. MDP Chair, IRMA, and Mr. A.K. Taneja, Program Coordinator, ICA-AP.  

 

Participants include professionals from Bhutan, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Nepal, and Vietnam. They will be trained in agri-cooperative business management, leadership and planning with a focus on women and youth.

 

Program Report: Empowerment of Rural Women for Improvement of their Leadership and Business Management in Asia and Africa-2021

 

ICA-AP launches the report for the 2nd ICA-MAFF Course on “Empowerment of Rural Women for Improvement of their Leadership and Business Management in Asia and Africa-2021”. The course aimed to assist the capacity building of rural women leaders and enhance their business management abilities for more organized activities and participation in agri-business in Asia and Africa. Part-I was organised in collaboration with the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) from 9 to 18 August 2021. Part-II of the programme was conducted by the Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia (IDACA), Japan from 20 August to 13 September 2021. 

 

15  participants from nine countries – India, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Lao PDR and Vietnam in Asia and Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania in Africa participated in the training. They were taken through sessions and case studies on women entrepreneurship and women-related initiatives in livelihood creation and micro-enterprise management.
