On 26 September, trainers from the National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO), Philippines, Ms. Sylvia O. Paraguya, Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Daisybelle M. Cabal, Group Head, Education, Training, and Consultancy and Ms. Lasalette M. Gumban, Diaspora and Climate Action Program Unit Head held a seminar on Cooperative principles and their implementation in the life of cooperatives” for the employees of the Cooperatives Union of Kyrgyzstan (CUK). Twelve CUK specialists took part in the online seminar.

In the Kyrgyz Republic, major reforms are underway in the field of agriculture and the state provides support for the development of  cooperatives. Lack of awareness and knowledge in this area is a big deterrent to the development of cooperatives in Kyrgyzstan. Often, the efforts of the state do not lead to the desired positive result.

The trainers briefly shared the history of NATCCO's development and their experience and knowledge in building cooperatives and instilling  values and principles of cooperation. The participants actively engaged in discussions and Q&A on important issues of the cooperative movement to gain more insights and knowledge.

This seminar was an excellent example of the 6th Principle of cooperation: Cooperation between cooperatives. A more competent association shared its knowledge with another association in which cooperative building was the focus. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic was also informed about the training and the officials who cooperate with the CUK expressed their desire to participate in similar training events in the future.
