As part of the ongoing consultation on the Statement on the Cooperative Identity, the Cooperative Identity Advisory Group (CIAG) has released proposed draft changes to the Statement.
The Statement, which sets out the definition, values, and principles of cooperatives, was last revised in 1995. The current draft seeks to ensure its continued relevance and responsiveness to today’s realities, while safeguarding the core values that define the global cooperative movement.
Discussion Draft 1, along with an accompanying commentary, was shared ahead of the 2024 ICA General Assembly in New Delhi. It generated meaningful discussions and highlighted the importance of thoughtful reflection and inclusive dialogue. In response to the feedback received, Discussion Draft 2 has been released, addressing key concerns raised in New Delhi and accompanied by a new set of guiding questions.
Both the draft and supporting materials are now available on the ICA’s Cooperative Identity website. Cooperators and stakeholders are invited to review the draft and provide feedback by October 31, 2025.
