NFUCA Appoints New General Director & CEO
Our member, the National Federation of University Co-operative Associations (NFUCA) in Japan, has appointed Mr. Tatsuya Nakajima as the General Director & CEO, who succeeded Mr. Ichiro Nakamori.
Mr. Nakajima has been deeply involved in Japanâs university co-operative movement for many years. After starting his studies at Ryukoku University in Kyoto in 1994, he participated in Student Committee activities within the university co-op. In 2000, he served as Student Committee Chairperson of NFUCA. In 2001, he joined the Kyoto University Co-op, where he mainly worked in the cafeteria business.
During this period, he contributed to building collaborative business models between the university and the cooperative. His initiatives included developing original menu items in cooperation with faculty members (such as the âPresidentâs Curryâ developed by the President of Kyoto University), promoting local production for local consumption and direct sourcing, and developing halal and vegan initiatives to respect food diversity.
In 2015, he was appointed Managing Director & CEO of the Kyoto University Co-op. In 2019, he transferred to the University of Tokyo Co-op, where he served as Managing Director & CEO from November of that year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked to maintain essential services supporting studentsâ learning and daily life while ensuring the stability of the co-opâs management.
At the NFUCA General Assembly in December 2025, Mr. Nakajima was elected General Director & CEO, assuming responsibility for overseeing university co-ops across Japan.
In his private life, he is interested in philosophy and Japanese history and culture, and enjoys reading widely.
