Cooperatives in Vanuatu play a vital role in strengthening rural livelihoods, promoting financial inclusion, and supporting community-based economic resilience across the islands. With 460 cooperatives and over 17,000 members, the sector contributes significantly to local trade, savings mobilisation, agriculture, fisheries, and small enterprise development. Women form the majority of members and employees in savings and loan cooperatives, reflecting the sector’s strong contribution to inclusive development. Guided by the National Cooperative Policy 2024–2027, cooperatives in Vanuatu are increasingly positioned as important drivers of the country’s blue-green economy, climate resilience, and sustainable community development.
