Message from Ms. Chitose ARAI

Chairperson, ICA-AP Committee on Women

Dear Cooperators,

Warm greetings from the ICA-AP Committee on Women on this International Cooperative Day, celebrated under the theme “Cooperatives for a Peaceful World.”

Around the world, wars and conflicts continue to threaten human security, leaving countless people struggling to protect their lives, livelihoods, and dignity. In these challenging times, the role of cooperatives is more important than ever.

Through mutual support and democratic participation, cooperatives have long contributed to building inclusive communities where no one is left behind.

This is a practical expression of the Seventh Cooperative Principle, Concern for Community, and an important way of nurturing the foundations of peace.

Peace, however, is threatened not only by war and violence. Inequality, exclusion, and social division—particularly when people are denied a voice in decisions that shape their lives—also erode the foundations of peace.

For this reason, strengthening women’s voices and expanding their participation in leadership and decision-making are essential to building peaceful and inclusive societies.

The ICA-AP Women’s Committee remains committed to advancing women’s empowerment and participation, and to strengthening a cooperative movement that enables people from diverse backgrounds to shape the future together.
