The ICA-AP Committee on Consumer Cooperation convened its 59th meeting on 25 November 2025 at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, alongside the 17th ICA-AP Regional Assembly.

The gathering brought together nine members from seven organizations, in addition to three observers and the committee secretary, representing five countries across the Asia-Pacific region. Acting Chair Ms. Mikyung Shin opened the session with welcoming remarks, expressing appreciation for the participants’ continued commitment. She also extended her condolences to the delegation from the Philippines, noting the recent earthquakes and flooding that afflicted the Cebu region.

During the meeting, the Secretary announced a leadership transition in the committee secretariat, with Mr. Sungjoon Kang assuming the role from Ms. Itsumi Hishinuma, who was recognized for her five years of dedicated service. Delegates from the seven organizations presented updates on their activities and recent business outcomes. Their reports were followed by active discussions on key issues affecting consumer cooperatives in the region. Mr. Kang also delivered the 2024–2025 Activity Report and outlined the Activity Plan for 2026. Elections for the upcoming term were held during the session.

Ms. Mikyung Shin of iCOOP, Korea, was elected Chair, following her tenure as Acting Chair. Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdul Razak Shaik of ANGKASA, Malaysia, was elected Vice-Chair after serving as Acting Vice-Chair. Mr. Haruyoshi Amano of JCCU, Japan, was elected as Vice-Chair. Participants welcomed the new leadership and expressed confidence in their ability to steer the committee’s work in the coming years.

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to advancing consumer cooperative collaboration and strengthening regional solidarity throughout the Asia-Pacific.
