World Cooperative Monitor 2025

World Cooperative Monitor 2025

On 3 November 2025, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), in collaboration with the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE), released the 2025 edition of the World Cooperative Monitor (WCM) — a special report marking the UN International Year of Cooperatives in Doha, Qatar. Now in its 13th edition, the WCM offers the most comprehensive overview of the global cooperative and mutual sector, highlighting how cooperatives contribute to sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economies worldwide.

ICA hosted a special webinar on 27 January 2026 to present key findings and global trends from the WCM 2025, with examples of cooperative impact across sectors and regions and a discussion on how the WCM could look in the next decade.

The 2025 report presents the data from FY 2023 and features the Top 300 cooperative and mutual enterprises, their economic weight, and impact stories from across various sectors, including agriculture, finance, health, energy, and education. The report contains the Top 300 rankings and sector rankings based on turnover and on the ratio of turnover over Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita.

The Top 300 cooperatives achieved a combined turnover of USD 2.79 trillion in 2023. The agriculture (35.7%) and insurance (31.7%) sectors dominate the rankings by turnover, followed by wholesale and retail trade (18%).

From the Asia-Pacific region, the report features 36 cooperatives in the Top 300 based on turnover, including the National Agricultural Federation of Korea (NongHyup) among the Top 10. The rankings based on the ratio of turnover over GDP per capita include 44 cooperatives from the region, with India’s Amul and IFFCO topping the global list, highlighting the strength of cooperatives in emerging economies.

Several other cooperatives from Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, and other countries from the region are featured in the top 10 sector rankings as well.
