Dr. Udai Shanker Awasthi, Managing Director of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), has been awarded the 2024 Rochdale Pioneers Award, the highest honor bestowed by the International Cooperative Alliance. A chemical engineer who joined IFFCO in 1976, Dr. Awasthi has led the cooperative to remarkable growth, increasing production capacity by 292% and net worth by 688%. Today, IFFCO stands as India’s largest fertiliser producer and marketer and the world’s largest cooperative by turnover relative to GDP per capita.
